Voxtrona 3.8: spatial upmixing and local playlists
3.8 is out. This one is mostly about audio quality and getting your local library into some kind of order, plus a pile of playback bugs that had been annoying me for weeks.
New
- Spatial upmixing: stereo tracks are upmixed automatically across the app now, so they make use of spatial audio hardware if you have it.
- Local playlist filters: new chips let you group and filter the songs in a local playlist by artist or album.
- Song posters: make a poster for what you’re playing and share it straight from the app.
- Device switcher: you can pick the output device from inside the player now.
- Search now pulls out the artists behind shows and podcasts.
- The Lord of the Mysteries collab pack is here. You’ll find it on the home screen.
Fixes and polish
- Smoother playback: I reworked how audio and video load. That fixes the stalling, the stutter and the play/pause button flickering when a track auto-plays.
- The track title on Now Playing is properly centred now, and long titles scroll.
- The floating bottom bar and the tablet navigation rail animate more smoothly.
- Pressing Enter on the keyboard runs a search. I also fixed results sometimes not loading unless you tapped a suggestion.
- A song you removed from a playlist can be added back to it. Before, it couldn’t.
- Quick picks shows up for everyone now, and Home no longer opens scrolled halfway down after the app has been in the background.
- I fixed a few crashes in search, and the app lags a lot less overall.
